Heritage

Cultural Heritage means architectural/artistic works, monuments, elements, structures, sites, traditions, customs which are of cultural significance to Maldives from the historical, artistic, academical, aesthetic, ethnological or anthropological point of view.


Tangible Cultural Heritage

Tangible Cultural Heritage is broadly classified into three interrelated categories: movable cultural heritage, historical structures and buildings, and archaeological sites. Movable cultural heritage includes objects, artifacts, documents, artworks, and collections associated with Maldivian history, traditions, craftsmanship, and intellectual life, whether found on land or beneath the sea. Historical structures and buildings refer to architectural works, monuments, and features of outstanding historical, architectural, or technical significance. Archaeological sites comprise areas shaped by human activity or by the interaction of nature and humankind, holding exceptional cultural and scientific value. 


Intangible Cultural Heritage

Intangible cultural heritage means traditions and living expressions inherited from our ancestors and passed onto our descendants which whether they are lost/discontinued or not they are all linked to history, culture, tradition, social practices, norms, skills, knowledge which are outstanding cultural value from a historical, architectural, artistic, academic, aesthetic, ethnological or anthropological point of view.
